It is important that we capture the process and procedures being followed during breakdown and preventive maintenance. There is a trend to attend to breakdown without even knowing what has happened in the past and what remedial measures were taken.

To bring transparency to operations and to improve operations, a new trend being followed is to extend the reporting beyond the pure PV plant indicators and to incorporate reporting on the actual site activities. This means that the O&M contractor needs to have a CMMS (Computerised Maintenance Management System) in order to measure various O&M KPIs like acknowledgement time, intervention time, reaction time, resolution time) and equipment performance (e.g. Mean time Between Failures).

Nowadays everybody talks of 'Thinking Big'', 'Think of the Big Picture' and so on. Renewable projects are becoming big and lately many large multi megawatt projects are getting commissioned. As the size of these projects increases, it is time to reflect if we are losing sight of their small but significant components of the projects.
